Don't Have A Potty Mouth

Posted on: 25 May 2017

You probably do the best you can to take care of your teeth by brushing, flossing, and even using mouthwash before bed. However, it's also important for you to make sure you do what you can to prevent yourself from accidentally contaminating your mouth with nasty bacteria and germs that can make you sick. Not only is being ill bad for your overall health, but vomiting can be destructive to your teeth because the stomach acids that come into your mouth can eat away at the enamel. Not to mention, becoming dehydrated is also hard on your teeth. For these reasons, you want to educate yourself on the best ways to care for your dental care items.

Rinse your tooth brush well after each use

When you use your tooth brush you will get it wet and put sticky tooth paste on it. If you don't rinse it off well enough then it will act like a magnet for any germs and bacteria it comes into contact with. For this reason you want to be sure you rinse it off for a long enough period of time to remove all the tooth paste. You should use your clean fingers to move the bristles back and forth so the water gets between them well.

Store your tooth brush correctly

You want to find a good spot to store your tooth brush. This will be a dry area outside of the bathroom. Or, it could be in a closed medicine cabinet that closes tightly. If you store the tooth brush on the counter then feces can get on it, along with numerous other germs. You also want the tooth brush to be able to stand on end so it dries faster than if it is laying down where the water will remain on the bristles.

Know when to throw away your tooth brush

You can sterilize your tooth brush by boiling it in a pot of water on your stove for a few minutes. However, doing this can cause the tooth brush to get weak and it may end up breaking on you, so you can't boil the same tooth brush too many times. Therefore, you should be replacing your tooth brush every few months. If you have recently been sick then as soon as you feel better it is the perfect time for you to go out and get yourself a brand new tooth brush and get rid of that old one.
